Accident with Entrapment on Pothouse Rd.
by Firefighter/PHRN Scott Coady
Wednesday January 2, 2013

Schuylkill Twp, Pa. - The men and women of Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Company got off to a brisk start of the 2013 New Year when they were dispatched, along with two MICU’s from West End EMS, to an automobile crash that was dispatched as “serious” on Pothouse Road, east of S. Norris in Schuylkill Township.

Dispatch time was 20:49 hrs. on January 2, 2013. Station 68 responded with Engines 1, 2 and 5, the Rescue, Squad 2 and the Chief’s Truck. We were joined on scene by MICU’s 67-3 and 67-4. VFVFC responded with 20 firefighters with two of those being Paramedics and one a PHRN.

Responders to the scene found a single car accident with a single occupant (a female in her twenties) trapped in the driver’s seat with extensive damage to the front left and driver’s side of the vehicle. Crews worked rapidly to free the driver by removing the driver’s side front door and the “B” post with an extrication time of 16 minutes. The driver was then placed in the care of the MICU crews from West End EMS.

All units went available at 22:00 hrs. for a total call time of one hour and twenty one minutes.
