On Friday September 14, The Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Company placed a new piece of apparatus in service. The unit will be designated Engine 68-1 and meets the Chester County specifications for both Engine and Rescue. The combination of two of firefighting equipment into one has become very popular to reduce the total number of apparatus needed on scene to mitigate the given emergency. Engine 68-1 is a 2012 Spartan Gladiator cab and chassis with a custom built body by Crimson Fire Apparatus (the newly formed Spartan ERV). The delivery of this unit comes after over a year of hard work by the committee who designed the apparatus and oversaw the process of building and equipping it.
Hours after being placed into service, Engine 68-1 ran its first alarm, an odor of gas outside on Bridge Street that ended up being an unfounded odor.
The new Engine, along with all of our other apparatus, will be participating in the 2012 Pennsylvania State Fireman’s Convention Parade on September 29th in Norristown, PA. Come out and cheer us on, we’d love to have your support while we represent The Fire Company and Schuylkill Township!
