Station 68 Assisted Boro at 4-Alarm Building Fire
Erik Muhlenhaupt, Firefighter/EMT
Sunday, October 30, 2011

PHOENIXVILLE, PA - On Sunday, October 30, 2011 at approx. 6:31pm, Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Company (Station 68) was dispatched for one engine to assist Phoenixville Fire Department on a call for smoke in a building on the 300 block of Bridge Street. The initial reports described heavy black smoke coming from the roof of the Car Quest Auto Parts building.  Chief 65 arrived on the scene, reported heavy smoke and fire through the roof, established Bridge Street Command and requested the working fire dispatch.  Station 68 responded with Engine 68-2 and Rescue 68. As Engine 68-2 was arriving on scene, the incident commander began request additional alarms to be dispatched and crews quickly prepared for a defensive, exterior attack.

VFVFCo crews assisted with master stream operations, air bottle refilling, and a few 68 firefighters spent time in the bucket of Tower 61 and on the tip of Ladder 65 for ladder pipe operations.  The incident progressed to 4 alarms before the situation was placed under control.

Station 68 units were released just after midnight after a busy weekend and another job well done with Phoenixville Fire Department and other mutual aid departments on the scene. Thank you to Squad 47 (King of Prussia) who stood by at Station 68 while VFVFCo crews were busy at the fire!
