Rare October Snow Storm Strikes the Region
by Erik Muhlenhaupt, Firefighter/EMT
Saturday, October 29, 2011

SCHUYLKILL TWP, PA - As an early Nor’easter bore down on much of the North East on Saturday, October 29, 2011, Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Company was prepared for whatever the storm had to offer.

While some firefighters volunteered to stage at the fire company's main station and substation, many other volunteers staged at home until the first emergency calls were dispatched.

Just after lunch, the first call came in for a tree in wires. Engine 68-2 quickly made the response and was assisted by 68 fire police with placing barricades in the area. Station 68 was dispatched and responded to a total of 6 alarms by the time the sun rose on Sunday morning. These included 3 trees in wires calls, two automatic fire alarms, and one auto accident in Charlestown Township.

While many township residents were left without power for an extended period of time, no serious injuries or severe property damage was reported.
