Station 68 Wins 8 at Mont Clare Parade
by Rescue Captain Julius Marosfalvi Jr
September 11, 2010

MONT CLARE, PA - Mont Clare Fire Company hosted a fire truck parade in celebration of their 100th Anniversary on Saturday, September 11, 2010. As a show of support, fire fighters from Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Company, dressed in their Class A uniforms, participated in the event with seven pieces of fire apparatus.

The parade kicked off at intersection of Route 113 and Black Rock Road and continued through Mont Clare, eventually travelling past the Mont Clare Fire Company on Route 29 and ended at Graphics Packaging on Longford Road.

But hours before the parade started, firefighters from Valley Forge and dozens of other fire companies all lined up early in the morning, preparing for their fire trucks to be judged.

The event was an opportunity for area firefighters to compete against each other for trophies and bragging rights for having the best appearing and equipped fire apparatus in various classes.  Fire trucks are entered in numerous categories to be judged based on the manufacturer year and the types of truck, for example Engines (Pumpers), Ladders, Rescues, Tankers, etc.

Judging isn't just a beauty contest for the apparatus. Judges from Tri-State Judges Association quizzed firefighters about numerous details of their trucks and about the equipment they carry.  In addition to cleanliness, trucks are judged on how functional they are and how well the required equipment on the trucks is maintained.

After all the trucks were inspected, the judges all gathered in front of Mont Clare's fire station and performed their final review as the fire trucks passed.  After the last truck passed, the judges met in a private room to review their finding.  Before long they emerged from sequestering and presented the trophies to the winners.

After countless hours of washing, painting, polishing and waxing, fire fighters from Station 68 exploded with joy when the judges announced Valley Forge Vol. Fire Co. won trophies in 8 categories...
