Multi Vehicle Crash on Rt 29
by Rescue Captain Julius Marosfalvi
June 4, 2010

On Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at 15:58 VFVFCo and an ambulance from West End Fire Co. responded to a multi-vehicle accident on Route 29 at Creek Road. Schuylkill Township police quickly arrived on the scene and informed incoming fire apparatus that there were two vehicles completely blocking Rt. 29 and three additional vehicles involved in the crash that were moved off the road.

Station 68 Fire Police quickly closed Route 29 between Pothouse and Buckwalter Roads. Engine 68-1 from our sub-station on Pothouse Rd. and West End MICU 67-1 were the first fire and EMS units on the scene followed shortly by Rescue 68 and Engine 68-2 from the main station.  EMS personnel assessed all victims involved in the crash and determined that there were no serious injuries.  Firefighters stabilized the two severely damaged vehicles that were blocking the road and quickly started clearing debris off the road as tow trucks were being called in.

Route 29 was closed for nearly an hour and was reopened at 16:48. Unfortunately with the roads already heavily congested due to a local bridge closure, the accident create a major traffic nightmare for hundreds of motorists that lasted for hours.
