On the morning of Saturday May 1, 2010, golfers teed off at Pickering Valley Golf Course during our 19th annual VFVFCo Golf Tournament. Not a cloud in the sky from start to finish, it was sunny and warm, an absolutely perfect day for golf.
The rolling hills of Pickering Valley proved to be challenging once again. The front 9 can be forgiving with some open fairways however the back 9 is where the game was won or lost. The long narrow chutes between the towering trees were once again overwhelming for some however this was where the more seasoned golfers rose to the challenge. As some teams struggled to make par or the occasional birdie, at least one team managed to overcome adversity and shot birdie on all but one of the final 9 holes.
And so after completing 18 holes, all the golfers returned to the Valley Forge Fire Company Grove to buffet, refreshments and of course the awards. With the best score of 12 under par, the first play group was Rick Beittel (team captain), Dennis Coppen, Bryan Hooper and Scott Gillespie. The second place group was led by team captain Larry Davis and the Judges award was presented to John Stout.
