Chicken BBQ a Great Success By Asst. Engineer Rafael Henin September 10, 2009
On Saturday August 29, 2009, Valley Forge Vol. Fire Co. hosted the annual Chicken Barbecue. This year the event was held at the fire company sub-station on Pothouse Road which provided far more chicken sales likely due to the increased visibility and higher vehicle traffic in the area.
Fire company members and firefighters started the day at 7AM when the 15 foot charcoal pit was lit.Once the coals were hot, the chicken and potatoes were placed on racks and cooking had started. Before noon customers were lined up to be first in tasting the delicious fowl.Every person that stopped in to support our fund raiser was surprised at the amount of food that they received for an $8 donation. Not only did they get half of a chicken but they alsoreceived baked beans, summer salad, a baked potato, a roll and a homemade dessert.Allday our supporters raved about the chicken.
After a long and busy day, the volunteers finally wrapped up the sales at 6PM.Thank you to all who came out to supported our fundraiser and we hope to see you all again next year.
