RIT Response to Spring City
by Assistant Chief Evan Taylor
February 6, 2009

In the early morning hours on Wednesday February 4, 2009, in the midst of a snow storm, Liberty Fire Company (63) and Royersford Fire Companies (MontCo 84 and 85) were dispatched to a possible house fire on New St in Spring City Borough. Upon the arrival of 63 units, they found smoke rapidly filling 2 basements. Chief 63 (Bliss) upgraded the assignment to a working fire adding Valley Forge for the RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) assignment and MICU 1-67. Engine 68-2 made the response with 6 volunteers and began their drive along a very snowy Route 23.

As fire crews searched, they found the source of the fire to be an electrical outlet in a rear room of the basement. The fire was quickly brought under control and Valley Forge crews were downgraded from RIT to supplying manpower. Minor overhaul was needed and Engine 68-2 was made available a short time later. Just in time to make a snowy trip back to station.
