68 RIT Assist at Spring City Building Fire by Assistant Chief Evan Taylor January 14, 2009
Early Sunday morning, January 11, 2009 at 1:32am , Liberty Fire Company and Royersford Fire Dept were alerted to a house fire on Chestnut St. in Spring City Borough. Moments later, Chief 63 arrived and reported fire showing from the basement and upgraded the incident to working fire adding MICU 1-67 for the EMS stand-by and Valley Forge for the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT).
Engine 68-2 responded shortly after dispatch with a crew of 6 volunteers lead by Chief 68. Upon the arrival of Engine 68-2, crews staged firefighter rescue equipment to the side and performed a scene size-up by walking around the building to check for hazards and identify potential means of egress.
After some time had passed and no more hazards were present, the crew from Engine 68-2 was downgraded from the RIT assignment and placed into manpower to give some tiered firefighters a much needed rest.
