Valley Forge Celebrates with Station 65 by Assistant Chief Evan Taylor November 14, 2008
On Saturday November 8, 2008, Valley Forge Firefighters attended the housing of three new apparatus for Phoenixville Fire Department's Hose, Hook and Ladder Company Number One. This event was a historical one. It marked the second time, in the company's 134 year history, that they housed three brand new fire trucks. The first time was for the company's formation in 1874.
Station 65 housed a 2008 Ford F-350; 2009 KME Predator Engine along with a 2008 100ft E-One Ladder. Valley Forge Firefighters participated in the hands on housing of Engine 65.
During the ceremony, each truck is 'pushed' into the building three times; one for God, one for country and one for firefighters. In the early years of firefighting there was a lot of rivalry amongst neighboring fire companies. A housing ceremony was a chance to get together without tension or rivalry and celebrate the future of the company and their new apparatus. Luckily, much has changed in the past few hundred years and together all the firefighters celebrated what was surely a great day in Station 65's history.
