Seafood Fest at Valley Forge by Julius Marosfalvi Jr. October 18, 2008
Our ever popular seafood night was held on Saturday October 11, 2008. So popular in fact, that the event was moved from our social room into our apparatus building to provide enough seating space for everyone. And it was a good thing too because the moment the doors opened the seafood lovers arrived in droves, eagerly anticipating their favorite platters.
Preparing and serving all the food was no small feat but the volunteers were up for the challenge. Clam chowder, lobster bisque, and snapper soup were cooked by the gallons. Nearly 3,000 clams and 40 pounds of mussels were being steamed and served as fast as they were being ordered. Not to mention over 60 pounds of shrimp and 40 pounds of crab legs and 400+ raw oysters. Our volunteers were certainly kept busy. Thanks to the fire company Auxiliary along with the many social members and active firefighters that came out to help, this event was immensely successful. We hope to see everyone back again in the spring.
