On the morning of Saturday, September 20, 2008, bikers arrived at Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Company by the dozens to participate in the 3rd Annual VFVFCo Poker Run.
Just as the organizers of the poker run finished setting up the registration tables, motorcycles started to arrive. Oh just a couple bikers at first and a few minutes later a few more arrived in groups of three of four. As the minutes passed, the bikers continued to arrive one after another... some in groups as large as ten or more and before long the parking lot was completely consumed by dozens of chrome covered v-twin machines. Throughout the morning, a total of 137 participants made their way to the registration tables to pull the first card of their poker hand. Afterwards they picked up their T-shirts and double checked the directions and hit the road.
The groups enjoyed a short ride through Valley Forge Park as they headed to the first stop on the run... the Bridgeport Rib House on Ford Street in Bridgeport. After enjoying some fine tastin barbecue at the Rib House and pulling their second card of their poker hand, riders set out for the next stop, Little Oley Tavern on Farmington Ave. in Boyertown. Some chose to ride the quickest way there, along route 422, while other took some more scenic routes. After a nice break on the deck out back, it was time to pull the next card and move on to the next stop, Gear Jammers Saloon on E. Main Street in Douglasville. After one last break before the final destination it was time pull another card and get rolling again. The last stop on the ride was the Railroad St. Bar and Grill on Railroad St. in Linfield where riders had a change to pull the final card of their poker hand. After everyone had a chance to enjoy food from the buffet which was donated by Railroad St. Bar and Grill, the winners of the top three poker hands were announced along with the winners of all the prizes that were raffled off.
What better way to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon in September than on a 60 mile motorcycle ride with over a hundred other bikers while helping to raise money for a worthy organization. The firefighters of Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Company wish to thank all the riders, participants and sponsors who help make this year's fund raider a huge success. We hope to see you all again this time next year!
