Tree Crashes on House During Storm
by Assistant Fire Chief Evan Taylor
7/29/2008

During another rash of severe summer storms though our area on Wednesday July 23, 2008, Valley Forge Crews were dispatched to multiple calls for service.  Following an automatic fire alarm, a house struck by lightning and an arcing wires call, West End Ambulance crews were dispatched to a call for respiratory difficulty on Rossiter Ave.  When the ambulance arrived, they found a large tree into an occupied house and requested that fire crews be dispatched.  Rescue 68 and Engine 68-1 made the response under the command of Deputy Chief Kevin Geiger.  Firefighters assisted the ambulance crew by cutting away part of the tree so they could have a good way of exiting the house with their patient.  Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the house had suffered no structural damage and Valley Forge crews cleared the scene a short time later.
