A Two Vehicle Accident at Two Different Locations by Assistant Chief Evan Taylor 6/16/2008
On Monday June 9, 2008, at 07:16 hrs, station 68 was dispatched with MICU (mobile intensive care unit) 67 from West End Fire Company to route 23 and Flintlock Lane for an auto-accident. Upon arrival 68 units found one vehicle well east of Flintlock Lane with severe damage. A passer by alerted units to another vehicle involved at the intersection of Flintlock and Route 23. MICU 67-4 began evaluating the patient at Flintlock and 23 while 68 units evaluated the 2nd patient and vehicle down the road. Station 68 personnel determined that rear door of the vehicle needed to be removed in order to more safely remove the driver. The assignment was upgraded to an accident with confinement, and a second MICU was dispatched to the scene. Due to the nature of injuries, medical command determined that the patient needed to be transported to a trauma center by medical helicopter. A landing zone was established in a nearby field and the patient was transported to the Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania by medical helicopter, Skycare1. All units were made available at 08:41 hrs.
