On Saturday April 5, 2008, the Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Company held our semi annual seafood night in the social room for a record number of patrons. At one point during the event, there were approximately 120 people social room and additional tables needed to be setup in the apparatus building for the overflow.
The number of patrons seated in the social room turned over at least twice. And just how much food did our patrons go through? How about 2,500 steamers, 40 pounds of crab legs, 40 pounds of mussels, 400 oysters, 60 pounds of shrimp, 4 gallons of lobster bisque, 3 gallons of seafood chowder, 2 gallons oyster stew and 3 gallons of snapper soup. Now that was one fantastic feast.
This event was started many years ago by "Spinner" who thought it would be a good way to get some more people to come down to the firehouse. At that time it took a fair amount of work just to break even. Now several years later the seafood night has grown well beyond the capacity of the social room. Plans are currently in place to expand the event to the apparatus building.
A special thanks goes out to all the social and auxiliary members that worked so hard to make this event work so well. Thank you to our volunteers: Linda Cole, Eamonn Creaney, Abby Dillworth, Holly Dougherty, Jimmy Ercole, Jackie Evans, Eileen Geiger, Jackie Gruber, Sally Gruber, Mike "chubbs" Kassel, Joe Lorman, Michelle Lucas, Melanie Marosfalvi, Stan "worm" Martin, David "little worm" Martin, Mort McGovern, Gail Nattle, Lance Ravis, Harry Rhoda, Lori Schmeltzer, Judy Smith and Lee Wiggins. And thank you all for coming out to support our fire company.
We hope to see you all at the next seafood night in October.
